Diary Entry

from September 3rd 1910

The other day, Mother, pitying the poor little brats, paid for the less fortunate ones to go to the cinema.

Then, yesterday evening,

a dozen kids sat excitedly on the pavement.

Little by little they left, leaving by the end,

four of the most miserable, squatting under a street light.

In the end, my limited means allowed me great

joy and I was able to send them to the circus.

What a delight!

I was happier than

they were.
